This World Inverted is the tenth episode of Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments.
Synopsis[]
A DIFFERENT WORLD HOLDS THE KEY TO FINDING VALENTINE: Clary finds herself in a strange reality.
Clary and Jace get a tip from Meliorn that they can find Valentine by locating a portal in another dimension, but only Clary can venture into this new world. What Clary finds in this alternative universe is that life there is as if the threat of demons no longer existed and Shadowhunters were no longer needed. While she realizes that this dimension is the life she always dreamed of, Clary must act fast or she will lose herself in the alternative world forever.
Meanwhile, Alec and Isabelle must face the consequences of the Downworlder attack.
Plot[]
In order to guide Clary to Valentine's location, Meliorn sends her into a parallel universe to find the portal her necklace originated from. There, Shadowhunters eradicated demons in the distant past, and faded away, leaving no trace of them in the present. Her friends' and parents' alternate selves all lead safe and happy lives, putting Clary at risk of forgetting her mission and assimilating into the alternate world.
She finds Magnus' counterpart, who is also a warlock, and enlists his help in locating the portal. A demon finds its way into the alternate world, forcing Jace to go in to help. They defeat the demon and locate the portal, but Jace is badly injured in the process. Emerging from the portal into Valentine's hideout, Clary and Jace stumble upon Michael Wayland, Jace's father who was thought to be long dead.
The situation is tense in the Institute as Lydia tries to determine who was responsible for Meliorn's rescue. Izzy is eventually found guilty of interfering with the mission and is arrested. Alec attempts to turn the Mortal Cup over to the Clave in exchange for his sister's freedom, only to find it missing. Desperate to find it, he uses his parabatai rune to track Jace, but by this point, Jace has entered the alternate dimension and cannot be reached. Without any other option, Izzy is scheduled to be put on trial.
Simon is appointed vampire ambassador to the werewolves, much to their displeasure. Luke, the only werewolf on friendly terms with Simon, helps him to curb his bloodthirst. Fisk from Internal Affairs tracks Luke down to apprehend him, and he and Simon stage a deception to get Fisk off Luke's back and officially resolve the demonic murder case.
