Russell was a werewolf and a member of Luke's pack, who briefly became the alpha leader after Luke stepped down.
Biography[]
Insurgence[]
After a large number of their pack died when Valentine Morgenstern used the activated Soul-Sword, Russell became distressed with their dwindling numbers and contemplated turning mundanes to reinforce their pack. He tried to encourage others to side with him. When Luke expressed his disapproval, Russell questioned Luke's leadership and blamed him for the deaths of their comrades. He challenged Luke for the pack's alpha position, but Luke gave him a chance to reconsider.
Not long after, he invited Maia Roberts and other pack members to go to head to Philadelphia with him to start their own pack. Maia refused, but some others, namely Reid, Greg, and Segan, joined him and left the Jade Wolf and the pack.[1]
Russell and his pack stayed in New York, however, and Turned mundanes as he'd originally planned. After attacking one mundane, Maia and Simon saw them and took Bat in while Russell retreated to their hideout. When Luke found out, he tracked them down and confronted him, finally accepting his challenge to the death. Luke beat him but chose not to kill him, instead invited him back to the pack.[2]
When Russell and some of his fellow pack members noticed Maia and Simon's relationship, Russell did not make any attempt to hide his contempt for the vampire and Maia's decision to date one. One evening, they decided to kick Simon out of the boathouse on their docks and threatened him into leaving peacefully. When Simon refused, he had Glenn attack Simon, but Glenn was magically thrown back before he could even hit Simon, surprising him and everyone else around.[3]
Alpha again[]
When Luke left the pack, Russell stepped up as alpha, quick to start calling the shots. When word of a rogue vampire killing a werewolf Praetor reached them, Russell imposed a curfew on the pack. Maia questioned this decision, and Bat tried to ask him to reconsider so that he could go to his nighttime shift. Russell refused but Maia told Bat that he could leave, though Russell threatened him and anyone who defied him exclusion from the pack.
Later that night, the Brooklyn vampire clan stormed the Jade Wolf, demanding the surrender of the Praetor Jordan Kyle. Russell and the other werewolves stood up to the hostile vampires, resulting in a fight that took lives from both sides. Though Russell put up a fight and killed several vampires, Russell was stabbed in the spine and killed by the clan's leader, Griffin.[4]
