The parabatai rune is a rune placed on Shadowhunters that bond them to their respective parabatai. The rune is bestowed upon them in a ritual and is permanent.[1]

It is possible to track one's parabatai through their bond with a rune. The tracker will simply need to place a rune, either by himself or herself or with the help of another, above his own parabatai rune. This will cause a similar rune, appearing slightly different, as if closing around the rune, to appear above the parabatai rune of the one being tracked. The process is considered dangerous as it will weaken and hurt both individuals and may even break their bond.[2]
