Netflix, Inc. is an American entertainment company founded in 1997 by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph in Scotts Valley, California.
The company's primary businesses are its eponymous subscription-based, streaming video-on-demand service, which offers online streaming of a library of films and television programs, as well as the distribution and production of original films and television series that are distributed exclusively by the service.
On December 18, 2015, around a month before the premiere of Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments, it was announced that the streaming service acquired the global rights for the series outside the U.S.[1]
