I'd like to date you. Oh, my God, I don't know why this is so hard for me to talk to you about—

–Maureen to Simon, Raising Hell

Maureen is Simon and Clary's friend, and Simon's former bandmate.

History[]

At one point, Maureen and Simon formed a band; together, they perform small gigs and sing together, with Maureen on the keyboard. Maureen developed feelings for Simon—something that he was oblivious to but became obvious to his best friend Clary.

On Clary's 18th birthday, the three of them went to the Pandemonium Club after their gig at Java Jones. Outside, she told Clary that her lack of a family history seemed slightly suspicious. When Clary brought up their new band name, Champagne Enema, Maureen and Simon told her that they'd, again, decided on a new one: Rock Solid Panda. They watched Clary spray-paint Simon's van with the new name, and when Clary unconsciously tagged it with a strange marking, Maureen suggested that it could be a language like Sanskrit and that Clary might have been experiencing a form of Foreign language/acquired savant syndrome. She later watched confusedly as Clary began talking by herself as if she was speaking to someone, not knowing that she was talking to someone who appeared invisible to her and Simon. Clary later left her and Simon at the club in a rush,[1] and it was the last time she saw Clary.

When Simon failed to show up at their schedule rehearsal one evening,[2] Maureen became worried and came to his house the next day, planning on admitting her feelings for him. Simon at first lied to her, telling her that he got caught up in schoolwork, but when his mother, Elaine, arrived and scolded him for being out with Clary all night without notice, Maureen lashed out but was quickly calmed when Simon reassured her that they weren't dating, after which Maureen blurted out that she wanted to be the one to date him. Maureen panicked and accidentally cut her hand. Her bleeding hand caught Simon's fledgling attention; not knowing this, she became annoyed at Simon's unresponsiveness and left.[3]

A dazed Simon slept with Maureen one day and confused her for Clary, offending her. Simon rushed off, but not before reassuring her that she was more than just a hookup. She later called Simon's sister, Rebecca, and told her that Simon had been acting weird and the she suspected that he might have been on drugs.[4]

After the confrontation with Simon, Maureen refused to perform with him again and told him that the band was over for her.[5] The two have since lost contact.

  • Maureen, in the episode Major Arcana, was also portrayed by Katherine McNamara when Simon imagined her as Clary.
