Lt. Dwyer is the lieutenant of the New York Police Department and the boss of Luke Garroway.
Biography[]
In 2016, Dwyer became the new lieutenant almost immediately after the death of Captain Vargas during the demonic murders. At one point, Ollie Wilson, one of the police detectives, mysteriously went missing and Dwyer sent the detectives Mendez and Greer to find her partner, Luke Garroway, to interrogate him.[1]
Once at the police station, he questioned Luke about Ollie's disappearance and her mother's murder, and when he noticed that Luke wasn't telling him what he wanted to hear, he reminded Luke of all the times he was involved in suspicious situations and told him that he was once again being investigated by Internal Affairs as a suspect for the death of Ollie's mother Dwyer also questioned Luke about the supposed disappearance of his previous partner, Alaric Rodriguez, the murder of Vargas (Dwyer's predecessor) and Clary Fairchild seemingly vanishing from existence, due to her absence from her mundane activities, when Luke told Dwyer that "his daughter needed him" and used family issues as an excuse. Unable to reveal anything about the Shadow World and give a proper and satisfying answer, Luke left the station, resulting in Dwyer consequently suspending him while the investigation continued.[2]
Days after Luke's suspension from the police department, Dwyer had Mendez and Greer keep an eye on Luke and not allow him to go anywhere without an escort, due to Ollie's sudden matricide. When they see Luke leaving, Mendez and Greer start the car to follow him, but Simon Lewis manages to stall them long enough. Luke and Simon arrived at the Jade Wolf, shocked to discover that the whole New York werewolf pack has been massacred by vampires led by Heidi McKenzie. When Mendez and Greer arrive at the scene, Luke stays behind and is arrested.[3]
Dwyer was present at the Jade Wolf when the police was inspecting the restaurant. Back at the station, Luke contacted Clary to tell her about the massacre and Dwyer entered, assuming it was his lawyer, which Luke denied. Dwyer again tried to get Luke to reveal the truth, since he normally never manages to get Luke to stop talking while jokingly reminiscing about a previous incident at the station. With no other option, Luke took full esponsibility for the Jade Wolf murders. As Dwyer turned to leave, he was unaware of Clary and Jace Herondale's presence, due to them being glamourized, who entered the interrogation room to try and convince Luke otherwise, even having Simon hypnotize Dwyer into calling off the case, but to no avail, as Luke felt responsible over his pack's demise.[4]
