Shadowhunters on Freeform Wiki

My name is Clary, and I'm a Shadowhunter—born to protect mankind from demons, a never-ending battle against evil. But I know who I can count on: Simon, my oldest friend, a vampire; Magnus, a warlock from Brooklyn; Luke, a werewolf pack leader and New York City cop; and Jace, Izzy, and Alec—three of the bravest Shadowhunters alive. Alone, we're strong. Together, we are unstoppable.

Production[]

The renewal for the season was announced on March 14, 2016, during a Facebook Q&A with the main cast, executive producer McG, and former showrunner Ed Decter.[1]

Shortly before production began, Ed Decter "left" the series, supposedly over creative differences.[3][4] He was then replaced by Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer as the new showrunners and executive producers.[5] Some other parts of the production team, such as writers, crew members, and producers, also left.[4][6]

Several changes were made behind the scenes prior to the production of the season. Various creative decisions were made, in coordination with the new vision for the show's expanded look. Along with the aforementioned new showrunners are some crew changes: Folks VFX was brought on as the new visual effects team, and the new stunt coordinator was brought on to make the fight scenes take on more of a martial arts approach. Even some of the props were redesigned, including the swords; some blades which now have runes glowing on their surface. The new team hoped to make the show visually stronger—less colorful and bright, but darker with more powerful action and better visual effects; the Portal design is new, as well as the warlock magic, Magnus's cat eyes, the supernatural speed, particularly of the vampires,[7][8] the normal rune color was also changed from red (of the first season) to black (its standard color in the books),[9] and even parts of the set have been revamped by the new production designer; the actors were also encouraged "into uncomfortable places" and "to dig down deep" for this season's scenes. The EP Matt Hastings (who, due to McG's busy scheduling, is the production director now regularly on set[10][11][4]) also brought on new directors and cinematographers for this season in their efforts to change the look and make the show more cinematic, to give the show more scope and more depth. It is also set to "focus a little bit more on [the] core people," building on their characterization and integrating some more elements and the tone from the books.[7]

Filming began on August 8, 2016,[12] took a break in November, continued in January 23,[13][14] and is expected to end by May 2017.[15][16][17] The show premiered on January 2, 2017; divided into two parts, the season went on a winter break after its mid-season finale on March 6, and will return for the second half on June 5, 2017.
