Elle Freitag is a former vampire of the Brooklyn vampire clan.
Biography[]
Elle was the right-hand man, alongside Joshua, of Griffin, who succeeded Raphael Santiago as the leader of the Brooklyn vampire clan after he was banished from New York City by Isabelle Lightwood for experimenting on the newly Turned vampire Heidi McKenzie.
Heidi went to the Hotel Dumort, accompanied by Elle and Joshua, hoping that he allows her to stay there for a while and hide from the werewolves hunting her and trying to warn them how dangerous they are. However, Griffin had to turn Heidi's request down due to her past crimes and was subsequently forced out on his orders. As part of a scheme to play them against each other, the werewolves and Jordan Kyle later break in, demanding that Heidi, whom they believed was being harbored by the clan, be turned over, with Jordan assaulting Griffin in a fit of rage despite truthfully claiming that Heidi isn't here. After another Praetor confirms this and Griffin demands that they be kicked out, Elle bared her fangs at them all the way. Taking Heidi's warning to heart after convincing the vampires into fighting back, Joshua and Elle agreed to attack the Jade Wolf in retaliation, convincing the unsure Griffin to see their plan through. A battle broke out at the restaurant that resulted in heavy casualties on both sides.[1]
After Maia and Jordan survived the massacre, Griffin informed Heidi about this and became concerned about the consequences of breaking the the Accords. To save herself, Heidi went to the New York Institute where she falsely denied being part of the attack and let the entire clan take the fall, thus resulting in Griffin, Joshua, and Elle getting arrested and put into the custody of the Clave in Idris.[2]
Elle is seen among the imprisoned Downworlders, who were meant to be locked up in The Gard for their crimes, having been instead chosen for the Project Heavenly Fire led by Victor Aldertree to turn them back into mundanes against their own will. Elle is forcefully taken away when it is her turn and injected with the serum, becoming a mundane herself.[3]
