Clary's Portal shard

Clary's Portal shard was a broken off piece of stone-like material that is part of a Portal which Clary Fairchild briefly wore as a necklace.

History

Somehow, Jocelyn Fray got ahold of a shard of a Portal from another dimension—one that has a Portal that allows travel to places the user had never been to. She fixed this piece onto a chain and put it around the neck of her daughter Clary, to be worn as a necklace, on the night they were separated, telling her to think of her when she has it on.

Once, while on their way to look for Dot, Clary casually touched the Portal piece and accidentally activated it for the first time. The shard glowed a bright purple and showed her where Dot was at that moment, and that she was in trouble.

The next time she was able to use the necklace, Clary held the shard and thought about her mother. She received a vision of Jocelyn with Valentine Morgenstern triggered by the shard. Valentine sensed her apparitional presence and spoke to her before the connection broke. Alec Lightwood confiscated the necklace after this incident, however, Jace Wayland stole it back along with the tarot card the Cup was in.

Meliorn took note of Clary's necklace after he was rescued by their group. He told them of its origins, and that the Portal her shard was a part of would help them locate Valentine. He guided them through the Seelie Glade that would lead them to the dimension with this Portal—the only one left in that dimension—and told them that if they could reach it, it would allow them to reach Valentine, whether or not they knew his exact location. Clary and Jace were able to find it and, with that dimension's Magnus Bane, the shard was put back into the Portal and used to reactivate it.

Appearance

The shard appears as a broken glassy rock. It was tied to a chain by Jocelyn, like a necklace.
