SPOILER WARNING: Plot details follow. Caution is advised!

Detective Alaric Rodriguez was a werewolf of the New York pack, a loyal follower and friend of the pack leader Luke Garroway, as well as his partner at the NYPD.[1]

History[]

Early life[]

When Alaric first Turned, he came to Luke for help.[2] The pair eventually became detectives and partners at the New York Police Department, working closely as they took over cases that would interest their pack.[3][4]

New leader[]

In 2016, their pack—specifically Theo, their leader at the time—is among the group of Downworlders interested in the Mortal Cup. He and Luke were tasked to use their connections at the NYPD to look for Clary Fray, who was believed to be in possession of the Cup. At the same time, they were assigned to continue working on the "Demonic Murder" cases,[3] later discovered to be deaths caused by Valentine's experiments.

Alaric would constantly remind Luke that their people were watching them closely,[5] and that they should still be cautious so as not to risk their covers.[6]

Despite seemingly wanting to side with Luke in his own endeavors, Alaric remained loyal to Theo and the pack. He followed his orders and even kidnapped Clary and Simon Lewis, bringing them to Jade Wolf to be interrogated. Nonetheless, he tried to protect them from Theo's wrath by speaking to Clary himself. It was also through Alaric that Luke was able to track them down. When Luke killed Theo, Alaric bowed to Luke, recognizing him as their new alpha.[7]

Decisions[]

Luke's leadership and loyalty to the pack came into question several times since he took over, and even Alaric came to doubt his decisions at times. Alaric was against letting the vampire Simon stay at the Jade Wolf but was swayed by Luke.[2] When Jace became a suspect in the murder of their fellow pack member Gretel, Alaric seemingly supported Luke's belief in Jace's innocence despite the other pack member's eagerness to go after the Shadowhunter for justice.[4]

Finally, when they learned that the Soul-Sword could decimate their kind, Alaric, though doubtful himself, trusted Luke's judgment and was able to convince the pack to join Luke and the other Downworlders to see Jace's plan through. They were promised that Jace would be able to destroy the Sword, and once it was, the Downworlders would charge and attack Valentine; believing that they would be safe, they stormed into the Institute after receiving the cue, though Luke, Maia, and Meliorn were engaged in battle outside and were left behind. However, Jace had unknowingly activated the sword, and Valentine wielded it just as Alaric and the other Downworlders entered, killing them all almost instantly.[8]
